Fish and Fisheries Art Show

Submission deadline: February 21, 2016

Discipline: Visual arts/ all artists are welcome

Setup: March 21

Take-down: March 24

The call is open to both professional and amateur artists. The topic area is fishes or fishery related pieces (marine, estuarine, & freshwater). The conference is expected to be well attended, with between 400-700 fisheries scientists, professionals, and students. Art will be displayed as a show alongside a student photography contest, and sharing a large area with scientific posters and various sponsors & vendors related to fisheries and environmental science. The show will be open during the day and during evening social events. There will be an opportunity to sell your art either through the art show (20% commission), or you may choose to have a display space as a vendor or sponsor (see below).

All art mediums will be considered, from photography, wall sculpture, fabric, mixed media, all paintings and drawings including, oil, acrylic, pastels, ink, graphite, scientific drawings, ceramic, etc. Two dimensional pieces, or the combination of multiple 2D submitted pieces, must fit on an 8’ x 4’ horizontal hanging space. Artist must provide pedestals for freestanding 3D art (some size and weight limits may apply). An entry may consist of 1-5 pieces, including dimensions, submitted as a digital image, to be considered. Work must be able to be ready (i.e., framed, if appropriate) to be hung on a wall or placed on your own pedestal to be considered. Hanging weight should be no more than 25 lbs., please. The artist must be present to move large or 3D art work and assist during set-up and take-down of the show. Very large pieces are not likely to be feasible for this short term show.

Cost: $25 for up to 5 entries. Entry fee may be waived with an art donation valued at $30 or more to the conference raffle or silent auction (which ever AFS chooses). We would also welcome art donations for the raffle/silent auction, with or without a submission to the show. Twenty percent (20%) of all art sales will go to CALNEVA/Western Division AFS.

Also, there is the option of being a vendor/sponsor at the conference–click here for details. The vendor fee is from $800/$1400 (based on booth size) and is not part of the show.

All submissions must be of your own work and represent the actual artwork as closely as possible. If your work is misrepresented in any way– meaning the picture diverges greatly from what the work actually looks like in color, shape, or dimensions etc., we reserve the right to refuse to hang the any misrepresented or overly complicated artwork, even if initially chosen for the live show.
