Student Travel Awards

In cooperation with our Chapters and other partners, Western Division of the American Fisheries Society is offering travel grants to help students defray the cost of attending WDAFS 2016 in Reno, Nevada. Grants are to be provided on an as-needed basis. The deadline for applications is January 22 and you must apply online.

The WDAFS Executive Committee will judge applications based on the criteria listed below:

1. Active membership in a WDAFS chapter or student sub-unit.
2. Officer role in a student sub-unit.
3. Willingness to present research (oral or poster).
4. Awardees are REQUIRED to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours at the meeting & bring an item to donate to the silent auction. In the past students have donated handmade crafts or solicited auction items from local businesses. This is a great opportunity to be creative or reach out into your community!

Funds are awarded at the discretion of the WDAFS Executive Committee and may or may not cover the amount requested. Funds are awarded on a reimbursement basis – students are expected to pay for travel up-front and submit receipts within 30 days after the meeting is over for any reimbursements requested. Directions for reimbursement will be provided to awardees at the time of award. Winners will be notified by January 31 (well before the early registration deadline of February 19).
